Photo cakes, themed cakes and image editor

What is the difference between photo cakes and themed cakes?

With photo cakes, you can upload your own photo (or logo), which is then printed onto your cake. With themed cakes, you can simply choose the design you like best or that suits your occasion from our wide range of options.

What happens if I add text to a themed cake?

Personalised text is adapted to the cake’s design, so it looks different from product to product. The result may vary depending on the size and length of the text. Our team always ensures a harmonious final result! (Your text is used exactly as provided, without spell-checking)

How do I send you my photo?

Once you have selected the size of your photo cake and clicked ‘Continue’, the image editor will open. Using the image editor, you can easily upload and edit your photo. The photo should have the highest possible resolution.

What do I need to bear in mind regarding image quality, file format and image size for my photo?

Please send us your image as a JPG, GIF or PNG file. Always upload your image at the highest resolution. Optimal results are achieved with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Uploading my photo didn’t work. What can I do?

Some steps in the image editor may take a few seconds. So please wait a moment before closing the image editor. If the upload still doesn’t work after several attempts, please complete the order without the photo first. You will then automatically receive an order confirmation by email. Then simply send us the photo, the name of your chosen frame, your desired text and your order number to service@your-cake.com.

Ordering process

How many servings do the cakes serve?

Our cakes are available in 6 different sizes. The round themed cakes are available in 18 cm (size S: 6 portions), 26 cm (M: 12 portions) and 36 cm (L: 25 portions) diameter. The rectangular photo cakes are available in sizes 20x14 cm (S: 6 portions), 25x17 cm (M: 10 portions) and 39x27 cm (L: 30 portions). For large events, the photo cakes are also available in sizes 60x40 cm (XL: 60 portions), 75x55 cm (XXL: 110 portions) and 110x75 cm (XXXL: 220 portions). You can find more information here

How late can I place an order?

If you order by 3.30 pm, next-working-day delivery within Germany is possible via DHL Express.

I haven’t found my desired design in the shop – what can I do?

Try using our search function (top right of our page). There you can enter the terms you’re looking for and the matching cakes will be displayed. If the search function doesn’t yield any results either, you can also order a photo cake and upload your own personalised cake design there.

How can I tell if my order has gone through?

Once you’ve placed your order, you’ll receive an order confirmation by email. This will contain all the details of your order. Please check all these details, such as the delivery address, delivery date, etc. If you spot an error, please contact our support team directly so we can correct it.

I haven’t received an order confirmation. What should I do?

Normally, you will receive an order confirmation by email immediately after placing your order. If you cannot find a confirmation in your inbox, please check your spam folder. In exceptional cases, the email may end up in your spam folder. If you still cannot find confirmation of your order there, please contact our support team. We will then be happy to check whether your order has gone through.

Shelf life, storage and ingredients

How long do the cakes keep?

Our cakes are freshly prepared daily by our pastry chefs and dispatched to the address of your choice on the same day. Once the cake arrives, you can store it unrefrigerated for at least 7 days. For large XL–XXXL cakes, please contact our customer support. The shelf life of these cakes may be shorter.

Our cakes are based on the English and American cake-making tradition, where one of the fundamental principles is that a cake can be decorated to perfection over a longer period of time. This is made possible by carefully selected ingredients and by omitting perishable foods such as cream. The basis for this is well-baked sponge cake layers and a buttercream made from pure butterfat. The sugar in the cake, together with the pure fat, provides natural preservation without the need for added preservatives. This allows for a longer shelf life compared to traditional cream cakes and also means that the cakes are best stored at room temperature, which is when they taste their best.

How should I store the cake?

Your cake should be stored at room temperature. Please do not put it in the fridge, as the colour on the cake may run when it thaws.

What ingredients are used to make my cake?

We use only selected ingredients for our cakes. You will find the relevant ingredients and allergens listed for each cake.

Do you also have gluten-free cakes?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer gluten-free cakes.

Do you also have lactose-free cakes?

No, unfortunately we do not have lactose-free cakes.

Is there any specific information for people with allergies?

Yes. Please note that all baked goods may contain traces of nuts, shell fruits, sulphites and dairy products. You can find more detailed information for each product under the heading ‘Ingredients and Allergens’.

Delivery

What delivery options are available?

There are four different delivery options for deliveries within Germany:

  • DHL Parcel
  • DHL Express
  • DHL Express, delivery before 12 noon
  • DHL Saturday Express

DHL Parcel is the standard delivery option. Delivery of your order may vary by +/- 1 working day from your preferred date. We recommend the DHL Express delivery option if you want to ensure that your order is delivered exactly on your preferred date. Another advantage of DHL Express is that it allows you to order a cake at very short notice. If you order via DHL Express by 3.45 pm, delivery on the next working day is possible. You can also select the shipping method DHL Express, delivery before 12 noon. This gives you all the benefits of a DHL Express delivery, plus your order will be delivered in the morning. Is it possible to collect the cake in person?

Yes. You can also come and collect your cake from us in Cologne. To do so, simply select “Collect in person” as the delivery method. You can find further information here

How much are the delivery charges?

For multi-tier wedding cakes, DHL Express delivery within Germany is free of charge.

When will my cake be delivered?

During the ordering process, you have the option to specify a preferred delivery date for the cake. If you choose the DHL Express delivery method, your order will be delivered on the exact date you specified. With UPS Express delivery before 12 noon, your parcel will be delivered in the morning between 8 am and 12 noon. With DHL Parcel delivery, the delivery may vary by +/- 1 working day from your preferred date. DHL Parcel usually delivers between 8 am and 6 pm. For most cakes, you can select the next working day (DHL Express) or the day after next (DHL Parcel) as your preferred delivery date. Only for our larger cakes (Photo Cake XL, XXL and XXXL) is the delivery time approx. 6–8 working days. You can find more information here

Is weekend delivery also possible?

Yes, with DHL Saturday Express you can also have your cake delivered on a Saturday. Delivery is not available on Sundays or public holidays.

Can I track the status of my delivery using a tracking number?

Yes, as soon as your order is dispatched, you will receive an email with the tracking number for your order. You can then use this to see where your parcel is at any time.

Why am I receiving a dispatch notification now?

We prepare the shipping labels a day before our master pastry chefs get to work and bake your cake for you. Therefore, you may receive the dispatch notification a day before the dispatch date.

What if I’m not there at the time of delivery?

If the courier is unable to deliver the parcel because there is no one at the address, they will attempt to hand it over to a neighbour. If this is also not possible, they will take your parcel back with them and leave a note in your letterbox stating when and where you can collect the parcel. This is usually the next working day at the nearest post office.
